“Everyone is there for the money”

Like everything else in life, companies and groups experience both good and bad times. I’ve witnessed integrations, acquisitions, crises, and even a huge market disruption due to revolutionary technology. It’s in these delicate moments that we tend to analyze from a third-party perspective, questioning what really happened and how the potential disaster could have been mitigated, right?

So, yesterday, while talking to a friend about one of these cases, I had a realization. A short sentence popped into my mind: ‘Everyone is there for the money.’ And that’s the whole problem.

I am not here for the money. I am here for something else, something that cannot be paid with money. Actually, if it can be paid for, it isn’t worthy enough, and deep down, we all know this. We’ve known it since we were kids! We just stopped listening to that inner voice, convincing ourselves that if we don’t do the ‘right thing,’ we’re at a disadvantage. But we’re not.

And sometimes is better to keep it simple: if everyone is there just for the money, it’s better to walk away.
